10 Minutes to Wellness

Updated: Nov 21

a quick 10-minute walk

As you know, I’m a big fan of keeping goals small when attempting a change. I’m going to be sharing quick 10-minute ways to enhance our wellness and vitality. They may be physical, emotional, mental, or spiritual tips.

Given our busy lifestyles, I know it is often difficult to fit one more thing into our schedules. However, research has shown that it is not necessary to go to the gym for an hour to reap the benefits of movement for our health. Simply walking for 10-15 minutes, especially after eating, reaps big benefits including:

  • Improved digestion. Body movement after eating promotes stimulation of the stomach and intestines. This helps food move through the digestive tract more rapidly.

  • Walking after eating also helps with blood sugar management, especially important for those with pre-diabetes and type 2 diabetes. Walking after eating helps the glucose from food be used for energy which reduces a post-meal spike in sugar. Blood sugar spikes mess with energy levels and increase the risk for type 2 diabetes.

  • Increased circulation. With increased blood flow to our muscles and brain, we experience more energy rather than sitting on the couch and feeling like you may want to take a nap.

  • Improved sleep by regulating the sleep-wake cycle. This makes it easier to fall asleep and allows for a deeper restorative rest.

Of course, there are other benefits, especially when walking outdoors in nature, such as improved mood. stress reduction, and maybe even weight loss if done consistently.

So, let's get walking for better health and vitality!
